The ultimate phrase understood by all within the ski industry, a “ski in/ski out” chalet is in most people’s opinion, a must for a true luxury chalet experience.
After all what better defines luxury on a skiing holiday than being able to avoid the morning queues at the lifts, meet your instructor actually in your chalet, clip on your skis and Voilà as the French say, the mountain is your oyster! Here is our guide to the very best luxury ski in ski out chalets!
Being known as the most exclusive ski resort in the Alps, Courchevel 1850 has an abundance of ultimate luxury Ski in Ski out chalets to offer. In fact without the ski in/ski out status, it’s not even worth considering for its equally exclusive clientele. These types of telephone calls usually go something like “Courchevel 1850 ONLY, Ski in/Ski out ONLY” no negotiation. Luckily for us, Courchevel 1850 gifts us travel agents with a superb collection, phew!
Chalet Gentianes could be described as the best location in Courchevel 1850. In the exclusive Hameau de Bellecôte, which is also home to the legendary Edelweiss, the chalet is away from the main road and intensely private. That being said, the centre of Courchevel is just 200m away, less than five minutes walk.
On my visit to the resort, I could see instructors congregating outside the doors of these exclusive chalets, ready to help guests clip on their skis and guide them through the trees and down the Bellecôte Piste. Heaven!
Chalet Hidden Peak is the latest luxury ski in ski out chalet in Courchevel. It is brand new to the rental market this season, having formerly only been used by the owner exclusively. Chalet Hidden Peak in located on the Cospillot piste and is one of the luxury chalets run by the K2 Palace Hotel. Hidden Peak is the middle of the 5 slope side chalets as seen in the image above.
One of our Director Andy’s favourite ski runs, Shemshak Lodge is positioned perfectly for ski in/ski out access on the Dou Dou Midi red piste, giving you the advantage of a fantastic central location on the slopes, but still within walking distance to the many restaurants, shops and bars in the centre of the resort. You can see why Shemshak Lodge is firmly up there as a luxury ski in ski out chalet.
For the non skiing members of the group, don’t panic! You have your own private chauffeur to whisk you back in the comfort of a luxury 4×4.
Located directly on the slopes below the infamous Rond Point and opposite the Adret chairlift, Chalet Trois Ours has firmly secured it’s position as one of the best ski in/ski out chalets in Meribel!
It’s a 2 minute’s walk to ‘Le Plateau’ where there are a few specialist shops and one of the best restaurants in Meribel ‘Le Cro Magnon’. Here you can also take the short 7 minute bus ride into the centre of Meribel.
Domaine de Toit du Monde is a combination of two exquisite chalets created from an old monastery. Himalaya and Toit du Monde are both protected by impressive fortress-like stone walls, creating seclusion and exclusivity for its guests.
The Chalet can be found in the popular resort of Val d’Isere. It is exceptionally well-positioned as a ski in/ski out location with the famous World Cup ‘Coup de Monde’ downhill slope on one side and the popular ‘Verte’ tree lined winding green slope on the other. Both take you down to the La Daille gondola, making it the perfect location for guests. Domaine Toit du Monde is the only ski in ski out chalet on a green run in Val d’Isere, perfect for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities.
Outside of France, ski in/ski out chalets may not always be so easy to find. For example in the exclusive Swiss resort of Zermatt, the layout of the village means that true ski in/ski out can only be found in the hamlet of Winkelmatten. We feature just one on our Ultimate portfolio!
Winkelmatten is known as the “Beverly Hills” of Zermatt and has some fantastic restaurants and bars, children’s play areas and shops. From Chalet White Pearl you can ski through the meadow and down to the Klein Matterhorn Express. You can also ski back to the door of the chalet down the Moosweg ski-run.
White Pearl is the only free-standing chalet in Zermatt with a Swimming Pool!
The equally exclusive Swiss resort of Verbier is just as thin on the ground when it comes to what is classed as true ski in/ski out chalets.
Located in the private Hameau development and occupying an enviable position overlooking a small lake, guests can click into their skis from Chalet Makini in the morning and slide down a meandering trail that traverses the Hameau village. This leads you directly to the Le Rouge teleski from where the main ski area can be accessed and at the end of the day you can ski to the chalet from the Les Esserts beginners area or from Savoleyres, snow permitting.
Moving into Austria, the beautiful resort of Lech can be found in the middle of the snowiest region of the Alps with Zurs and St Anton on one side and Warth on the other. The resort is a favourite ski destination for the rich and royal and holds two very impressive ski in/ski out chalets….
Nestled in the exclusive enclave of Oberlech with breath-taking views of the surrounding peaks, this ski-in and ski-out chalet is one of Lech’s most prestigious luxury properties. Rufikopfbahn (central Lech) is just a 3 minute drive, but who needs a vehicle when this is the positon of Chalet Uberhaus….simply clip on your skis or snowboard and go, as this guy is perfectly demonstrating!
Chalet 1551 is the latest addition to our Ultimate Luxury Chalets portfolio in Lech and is undoubtedly one of the most ski in ski out luxury chalets available on the rental market. Perched between Lech and Oberlech Chalet 1551 can be accessed via the “Grubenalpe-Oberlech-Lech” piste.
To get to the chalet you will be met by the chalet staff and transported to the chalet via snow mobiles, getting a feel of the snow and an adrenaline rush before even stepping into the all world chalet.
Last but not least is the mighty Chalet N. Perched high in Oberlech offering stunning views across the valley, not only is this the ultimate in luxury but combined with its ski in/ski out status, Chalet N is up there with the very best properties the Alps has to offer.
It takes just 4 mins chauffeured drive to be dropped in Oberlech or around 7 mins to be driven into Lech itself. Undoubtedly one of the most impressive properties in the ski chalet rental market worldwide, it is a vast chalet sleeping up to 22 guests but still somehow manages to keep its homely ambience.
Arguably the most ski in ski out luxury chalet on the rental market today is the Hahnenkamm Lodge in Kitzbuehel. As you may of guessed from the name of the chalet it is perched halfway up the mountain on the famous “Streif” home to one of the most famous downhill ski races the Hahnenkamm! The chalet is in such high demand for the race that it is sold out years in advance.
Please note that the chalet is only accessible via the cable car from the centre of resort. If you are looking for a luxury alpine retreat with ski in ski out access then the Hahnenkamm Lodge should not be over looked.
