Ski apparel brands don’t get more exclusive or luxurious than Bogner – where sport meets fashion. This Ultimate Luxury ski/sports brand has agreed to let Ultimate Luxury Chalets take a sneak peak at the brand new Autumn/Winter 2015/2016 Ski collection and we get to chat with Head of Design Bogner Sport – Gotthardin Thylmann. Lucky us!

ULC – For people who haven’t heard of the brand, can you give us an overview of Bogner and how it all started?

Bogner – Passion for sport and fashion – the Bogner brand has stuck to this ideal for more than 80 years as the motor for creativity and continuity. What started in such a modest yet committed way in 1932 as a small production site in a back yard in the center of Munich, has developed over the decades into an international label with the large B as a synonym for top-quality sportswear inspired by fashion. As successor to the founders Willy Bogner sr. and Maria Bogner, Willy Bogner jr. and his wife Sônia now manage the company, which has a global reputation.

ULC – Are you able to provide us with a brief introduction into the Ski collection?

Bogner – Bogner Sport focuses on functional performance with a fashionable touch; sporty luxury, pleasure in dynamic coloring, layered look and lightness are the key words. The highest possible material competence and detailed craftsmanship form the basis for body skimming and ergonomically cut looks that always speak their own very special language both for sports and street style. The result: Individual sports fashion full of creativity, competence and variety.

ULC – What has been the main inspiration behind the A/W 2015/2016 ski collection?

Bogner – Bogner Sport is famous for its vivid colors and jazzy statements. This season, however, the team of designers has opted for a more subtle design language, introducing tonal sticks and logos that play with new 3D-effects. By way of responding to global warming, Bogner has created the “B-System” layering system that will be launched for the first time this winter: Consisting of a breathable, high-tech four-way stretch design made from light down material, it protects the body from the outside elements but keeps it warm inside. The new system is built into jackets and trousers; it compensates variations in temperature and protects against cold, thus making Bogner the perfect companion for everyone who wants to feel great on the ski slope regardless of the inclemency of the weather.

One of our most important sources is the feedback from the German national ski team, whom we continuously supply for many decades.

The Bogner brand is very high priced. That means, after having done our high-tech developing homework, we start to invent seductive pop star-garments nobody rationally needs, but must have. Beyond declarable arguments. When I see celebrities, for instance this season, Madonna and Paris Hilton purchasing our styles, it reassures our efforts. Back to your question: this season I researched in Japan, Marrakesh, Mexico and Norway.

ULC – What are the key colours used within the collection?

Bogner – The colors are Black, Mexican Orange, Lobster, Powder Rose, Stone, Smoked Oak, Wet Sand, Sunshine Yellow, Sandalwood, Lime, Off White, Topic Green, Mint, Smokey Blue, Ocean Blue, Soft Sky, Dark Blue, Lilac, Grape Red, Intense Pink, Red

ULC – Have you introduced any new patterns/textures into the garments for the upcoming season?

Bogner – For women, our most innovative fabric is a 4-way-stretch fabric, knitted not woven, with a 20.000 mm water column; a 3-layer, 4-way stretch jacket that is fully taped and features reflective piping and Alcantara zipper inserts is available for the first time. Interior-finished down jackets with a sleek appearance, which at the same time offer all the comfort expected from the material’s properties are another first at Bogner Sport.

The Ski Man range focuses strongly on the new “B-Tec” air-con layering system. Logos and stitched details are less conspicuous across the board; jackets are more functional than ever. Four-way stretch jackets are available in various color gradients; jackets featuring an inside down finish and magnetic locks and bonded down jackets worn under shell jackets embody a new generation of jackets. Fully taped pants without lining are just as new as ski jeans printed on performance fabric.

ULC – Are you able to show us any sneak peeks of patterns and colours?

Bogner – Here you go:

ULC – How do you test the garments? Do you have a durability process?

Bogner – We have strict minimal material requirements for our fabric components. We test them in our own labs, verify product specifics and ecological factors. We test the prototypes in real life, under severe conditions: in snow, on ice and every other cold weather condition. We also test through our collaboration with the German National Ski Team, those equipped with Bogner gear. There is no tougher test than that is there

ULC – Do you have a favourite garment? Can you tell us what it is and why?

Bogner – My personal absolute mega favorite is a tailored hoody long down parka made from my favorite tech material.
A 4-way stretch fabric, knitted not woven, with a 20.000 mm water column. Inside we have down in the typical quilt-look and the outside is a super clean tech appearance – completely new.

ULC – What makes the Bogner ski collection stand out from other brands?

Bogner – “Sportiness, refined comfort and a sensitive feel for quality – that’s how we define style.” Willy Bogner explains the concept of his brand, which has been successful for more than 80 years. Bogner Sport focuses on functional performance with a fashionable touch; sporty luxury, pleasure in dynamic coloring, layered look and lightness are the key words. The highest possible material competence and detailed craftsmanship form the basis for body skimming and ergonomically cut looks that always speak their own very special language both for sports and street style.
